ECE 233 Research Paper Assignment Description In this course, you will be learning a brief overview of each disability covered by the textbook; however, as teachers, we get to know the disabilities that our students have in great detail. For this research paper, your job is to think about a potential child that could have a disability. In this assignment, you can pick any disability that you would like to learn more information about, or, if you have additional insights into a particular disability because you have it or you know someone who has it, you can choose that topic to discuss in your paper. There are three tiers to this assignment, which will help you to create the best final product that you can create. Step One: Complete the Library Resources worksheet. (worth 10 points) Step Two: Complete the Article Review Worksheet for one of the resources that you found. (worth 5 points) Step Three: Compile your resources into the research paper. (worth 10 points) The research paper consists of three sections: 1) Summary of disability (1-2 pages): This should be a brief overview of the disability itself. The purpose of this section is to provide a description of the disability and provide examples that allow the reader to fully understand the exceptionalitys characteristics. 2) Impact on student (1-2 pages): This section should discuss how the disability affects the child as a whole. Think about: How does the disability impact the child socially, emotionally, and academically? How does this interfere with the childs life? What needs will the child have? Think of the child as a whole-in home life, school life, social life, developmentally, etc. 3) Impact on education (1-2 pages): This section should discuss how the disability will affect the child in the school environment. Focus on how this would impact you as a teacher if you had a child with this exceptionality in your classroom. Think about: This assignment should follow proper APA format, including a cover page, page numbers, and a reference page. Each section of the paper should have the proper heading (summary of disability, etc.) in order to make it clear and organized (and keep you on track!). This paper should be 5-7 pages in length and use a minimum of 6 resources: at least 3 professional journal articles, and the remaining three may be any journal article, website, or book that you find useful to your project. Anytime that you cite something from these resources in your paper, you must use proper APA citations within the text. At the end of your paper, a resource page is required in which you will list all of the resources used in your paper.
