How may samples were collected and over what time periods?

A written review will be submitted by Monday November 19, 2018 at 11:55 PM. 5 points will be deducted for every day the paper is late. The review will be no more than one page of one and a half spaced typed text. Any review over 1 page in length will be marked down at the rate of 5 points per extra page. The point of a scientific review paper is to write clearly and concisely. Spelling and grammatical errors will also result in point deductions.
Do not use first person language (I, you, us, etc.)
Do not use colloquialism or opinionated language. Stay way from words that are
dramatic in tone or or superfluous. Write clearly and scientifically.
Do not use contractions
Do not directly quote the authors. Write anything relevant in your own words.
Summarize the information clearly and concisely.
Do not include external citations. Do not cite the current paper, in text.
You may use any proper citation format that you are comfortable with.
Use active voice. The link below helps describe the difference.

You do not need to include any heading; simply begin your review on the first page. I know my name, the course, etc. Save your file as your full name and the date.
You can number the pages if you wish.
Upload the file to the assignment tab in Moodle as a word document. I will review the
paper, make corrections and comments, and re-upload the file in Moodle with the final grade.
The student is responsible to ensure the material is relevant to topic covered in the environmental science course, otherwise points will be deducted. You are also responsible to make sure that the paper is a peer-reviewed journal article. Make absolutely sure that it includes a method, results and discussion of the results. Review papers, opinion papers, new paper articles, summary papers, etc. are not peer-reviewed. Points will be deducted if it is not in the peer-reviewed format. If you are unsure if the topic or paper is appropriate, email the citation or PDF to a TA (e-mails are in the syllabus) or the instructor. We will give you an affirmation on your review publication.
The review paper should include:
1. Authors and publication title, cited correctly. This should be on the second page alone.
The title and authors should not be mentioned in the body of the paper.
2. Include a clear and concise summary of the methods used to collect and analyze the
data. It should be 3-4 sentences in length band by the end of your summary, I should have a good understanding of what the scientist actually did.
a. WHERE did they sample if they were in the field?

c. WHAT analysis were conducted? What was measured? What statistics or
models were used?
3. Include a clear and concise summary of the results and this should also be 3-4
sentences. It is important that you convey to me what the results mean. This is the whole point of scientific research
a. What did all of the data collected in the methods actually tell us?
b. What was the significant finding or findings?
4. Include a concise summary of the overall purpose (take home message) of the scientific
endeavor. Go to the discussion portion of the paper for this information. Read it carefully and summarize in a few sentences. This is for me to understand the point of the paper you read.
Spend most of your time and most of the body of the paper, on the methods, data and results and discussion. You may need 1-2 sentences by way of introduction and finally summary. The rest should be a clear summary of the research conducted in the paper and what it means. These papers are not easy to read but do your best. Read slowly, make notes, and summarize what you understand. Tell me what you learn!
