Instructions for Research Paper Each student is required to complete a research paper. The research paper will consist of 5-8 pages and should be a double spaced word document using APA style formatting to the best of your abilities. Conduct a managerial analysis of the company – Target. . The research paper is due on Saturday during week 8. Don’t forget to include your references and to use proper citations within the paper. Papers without references will automatically lose 15 points. Topics: An in-depth managerial analysis of a selected organization, e.g., a corporation, company, firm or association (ideally, an organization in which you have some interest in joining as an employee or associate or is currently working). Headings and some guidance on what to include under the headings. What is the mission of the organization? Note the formal structure (organizational charts); also what informal entities exist? Describe the decision-making process. How does the organization manage change? What is the leadership style? Who are the organization’s heroes? Describe the motivational environment. Assess the effectiveness of the organizational communications. Comment on the processes for control Note the type of controls. Describe the financial controls. Describe the operational controls. What role(s) do information systems play? Evaluate any innovative managerial practices. How is entrepreneurship encouraged? What ethical dilemmas are faced? What sources of "employee empowerment" are utilized? Role(s) of technology Assess your interest in joining the organization. Why or Why Not? How? Citations: Minimum of 4 references. Reference citations tell your reader that you are summarizing or discussing, in your own words, ideas from a work you have read. They do NOT mean that you are copying word-for-word or closely paraphrasing the author’s writing. Citations appear in the body of your paper and include the required information for the documenting system you are using. Include citations as often as necessary to identify the source of the material you are discussing. For example, if you are discussing one work for an entire paragraph, one citation in that paragraph is sufficient, but if you alternate between different sources, you may need to cite the same reference more than once. Place citations into the text when you change sources. Also, when you start a new paragraph, your citations begin anew; in other words, you must repeat any citations used in the paragraph preceding even if the source is the same.
