Proposal Essay and Presentation
For your final project in this course, you will be writing a proposal to help solve a problem in
your community. That is, you will identify a problem in the area of New Orleans itself or in your
hometown, convince your audience that there is a problem to be solved, and then you will
provide a solution and argue for it.
As the final component of this project, you will share your work with the class in a brief, 5-7
minute presentation. This presentation must include a visual element, and it cannot be a
traditional Powerpoint. An additional assignment sheet with specifications for the presentation
will be distributed in class.
Getting Started:
For this assignment, you are first and foremost working to identify and solve a
problem within the community. Thus your essay will need to explain the problem AND propose
a solution to a problem. You may wish to start by considering the following:

School: Would you like to fix or change the rising cost of textbooks or tuition, the
admissions process, or the financial aid process? Would you like to add more computer
classrooms, update the library, or provide more on-site tutoring?

Community: Potholes, crime, garbage collection, and temporary rentals are all ongoing
conversations in our community. Do you have ideas for fixing or changing any of these?
Your essay should:

Use two sources

Identify, describe, and explain the problem you are discussing

Provide a well-supported position/solution

Provide an effective response to the opposition

Set clear criteria that you used to make your claim or judgment

Provide evidence/ examples that support your claim
Ideally, youll want to target your work to someone who can actually do something about the
problem. Thus the audience for your work is going to be dependent upon your project. We will
spend time in class discussing audience and how to choose the proper audience for your project.
Your essay will need to be developed and organized in a manner that makes logical sense to your
chosen audience.

With an intro explaining why desiccation is such an issue and what other biotic/abiotic factors cause death and zonation to seagrass as well. Main body explaining stressors and impacts to seagrass then the adaptations it has to these stressors and then why desiccation is the primary factor with back up from sources. And finally a conclusion wrapping everything up and finishing the argument that desiccation is the primary factor while explaining why the other abiotic/biotic stressors arent as detrimental.

Evidence. Analyzing an article involves looking at the nature of the evidence. The evidence used may be scientific/scholarly (refer to your textbook or lecture notes for guidance here) or non-scientific (refer to your textbook or lecture notes). Make sure that you clearly describe the evidence being used to make the authors argument.
Point of View. All social scientists have a point of view. It may be stated explicitly or it may be implied by their argument. Be sure to clearly describe both the strengths and weaknesses of your article. Does the article succeed in achieving its overall purpose? (and here again your textbook/notes should come in handy).
Do you agree or disagree with the author? Why or why not? Here is your chance to give your perspective on the research. Be sure to clearly describe your point of view and your reasons for that position.3.Sociological Theory & Social Issues/Trends (1-2 pages, or 275-550 words)You are expected to demonstrate your understanding of the broader issues represented by your research question and article. You will begin this by:
a. Applying a sociological theory (the one that best fits in explaining your journal article and the social issue being considered) to your research.
b. Discuss social trends and current events within Canada or the global community that apply to your research question. Here you will integrate the current article from popular media (be sure to provide enough content here by summarizing the article and explaining how it ties into your journal article and broader social issue).Numbers 1, 2 and 3 should appear as subheadings in your paper. You may or may not include and introduction and conclusion.

How did those elements and condition contribute to facilitate this transference of knowledge to Europe? Can you name an example of a work of art or an object of art that can best embody this contribution? These new developments are continuing to change the way we work, play and interact with other people.
