Obesity and Evidence Based Solutions

The purpose of this project is for you 1. to practice collecting and analyzing relevant community
assessment data to identify nutrition-related problems and 2. to practice writing mini-literature reviews on
modifiable antecedents (i.e. contributing factors) of nutrition problems and existing programs that address
nutrition problems.
Learning Outcomes. Upon completion of this assignment, you will have demonstrated the ability to:
locate, interpret, evaluate and use relevant professional literature to make ethical evidence-based
practice decisions;
apply knowledge of the role of the environment, food, nutrition, and lifestyle choices to examine
programs to promote health and/or nutrition status in a selected community; and
demonstrate effective and professional written communication.
GETTING STARTED
You have been assigned a rural Texas county (Angelina County, Texas) to identify a nutrition-related problem. Once the nutrition problem is identified, you will research modifiable antecedents to the nutrition problem and existing community-based programs that address this problem. Note: you must identify a true nutrition related problem; lack of physical activity or physical activity-based programs are not an appropriate problem for this project.
1. The first step of this assignment is to collect and analyze relevant secondary data about your county
to identify a nutrition-related problem. A detailed assessment of the community will include a variety
of data, including geographic, demographic (e.g. age and gender distribution, education, income,
workforce/labor characteristics), access to resources (e.g. healthcare, opportunities for physical
activity, food access (quantity and quality)), and other considerations to understand the population,
who are a potential audience for intervention.
On the Class Research Guide, you will find links to sources of existing health and nutrition statistics to assist the assessment process. Note: this is not an
exhaustive list of datasets that you may use to support your assessment, but this is a starting point.
There may be other sources that can assist; however, these sources should be credible, such as data
collected and reported by a government or community organization. Commercial web sites (e.g.
.coms) generally dont meet these criteria. In addition, there are resources on the assessment
process in the assignment folder in eCampus (The Vermont Department of Health Community
Assessment Toolkit and The University of Kansas Community Assessment Toolbox). Sources of
assessment data should be cited in text and in your references list. Most often, these will be
formatted as web sites.
2. Once you have identified a nutrition-related problem, then you will research scholarly literature to
understand the nutrition problem and its modifiable antecedents (i.e. contributing factors). You must
include at least 4 scholarly sources from peer-reviewed journals for this part of the project. Note:
when searching for relevant literature, the research does not have to have been conducted in your
county; most likely it wont have been. But, it should be relevant in terms of the nutrition problem and
in a community/population similar to yours.
3. Finally, you will find and read three existing community-based interventions/programs that have been reported in research literature (i.e. peer-reviewed journals) that address your identified nutrition problem.

Given the formats encouraged for this assignment, it is difficult to assign a length limit. If you are writing an essay, 3000-3500 words is a reasonable length. Regardless of media, you should focus, first and foremost, on fulfilling the requirements of the assignment, including the objectives of your production, within a reasonable length / duration in keeping with these things.

Producing Counter Culture: Assignment
This assignment focuses on production, that is, on producing a text (essay, digital story, Prezi, blog, etc.) that challenges dominant ideologies and influences within popular culture. You may choose a theme, topic or cultural text or practice and produce a critical reading of it. You see many such critical readings of various texts and practices within the course. Additional examples may help put the assignment in perspective. A common approach to a counter-text can be seen in this video analysis of masculinities within Disney film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CWMCt35oFY; or, in this analysis of race, sport and popular culture: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hejztyuxek0
The central idea of this assignment is to focus on our powers of cultural production as a means to re-read, re-educate, to offer a critical perspective, and to challenge the dominance of problematic and oppressive meanings. The purpose of this assignment it twofold: to challenge dominant meanings of a particular cultural text or practice; and, to provide an example of cultural analysis that can be used as a model in teaching and learning about popular culture.
As with the first assignment, use and document both course materials and independent research to provoke and to deepen your thinking. Please discuss topics with the instructor prior to proceeding with the assignment. students will share highlights of their inquiries into pedagogy, literacies, and culture. Presentations will be scheduled.

State what previous research or articles in the literature support the need for the research you are proposing. Explain briefly how your research fits into what has previously been done.

Your review of the literature should lead directly into the purpose of your intended research project. Clearly state what research question(s) you aim to answer through the proposed research. Then clearly state the hypothesis, or what you expect to find, which should be a logical extension (emerge out of) the literature review. The write-up of the research question and hypothesis should be no more than one or two paragraphs.**The topic will look into rehabilitation and how to deter repeat offense when it comes to juvenile. *Research question can be changed but has to pertain to juvenile justice

Gather information and data from a variety of valid and reliable sources critically analyse and evaluate the information and data to ensure that it is relevant to the topic.

Task You are to provide a written report which will be distributed to both the Environment Department and GBRMPA which discusses the environmental best practices which were/are considered in the running of the Green Island Resort. Dont include irrelevant information or data. integrate the information and data to make justified and responsible decisions, consider alternatives and predictions relevant in past, present and future biological contexts. REPORT FORMAT: Overview Briefly discuss/outline facts about the island: ie location, size, climate, formation the rationale for tourist development on the island clearly identify the meaning of the term environmental best practice the need to consider environmental best practices with regard to Green Island an example(s) of projects other than Green Island that have adhered to environmental best practices. These must be referred to. Green Island Environmental impact In this section you must identify all aspects of the operation of the Green Island Resort with respect to Environmental Issues that you have measured against best practices The environmental issues you identify must be relevant to: the construction and running of the Green Island Resort, and managing the current level of daily visitor activity on the island Integrate the information and data obtained to make justified and responsible decisions regarding: the potential impact each aspect may have on the island environment, the consequences of ineffective management of each aspect, best practices which are employed in order to minimise the impact of each aspect; and the effectiveness of these management strategies. Include a summary of these control measures undertaken for each by completing a table identifying the Aspects to Consider, the Control Measures put in place by Green Island Management, and the Effectiveness of these in addressing the issue. Control Measures are what the current management is doing to minimise the environmental impact, and the Effectiveness is your observation of how successful these measures have been. You should score effectiveness as a rating (eg: 1 to 5). Conclusions This section summarises the effectiveness of best practice management. Recommendations This is an objective table summary of the practices that you (as the consultant) identify as needing review. Clearly discuss recommendations by considering alternatives to the current modes of operation for these particular practices to ensure that best practices are adhered to, or improved on. Justify your recommendations by making predictions, with reference to future biological contexts, on the positive impact of implementing these alternatives and how they will improve the environmental status of Green Island. Also, make predictions relevant to the future environmental impact on Green Island ecosystem if the modes of practice are not reviewed or modified. An example could be: Environmental Issue: Island Litter Recommendation / alternative: Smoking bans extended to whole of Island. Justification: Cigarette butts are not being disposed of appropriately. Removal of butts will eliminate the presence of butts in the environment, and therefore eliminate the risk to wildlife. Cigarette butts are not biodegradable over time their presence will be an ever-increasing risk to the wildlife on the island (choking hazard); and with the potential also of being washed into the marine ecosystem (with heavy rains), and being ingested by predatory marine species.

Identify an operational activity within your organization, or an organization with which you are familiar.

Process improvement requires the analysis of processes and of data. In this Assignment, you will develop a process flow for an operational activity that takes place in your organization, whether or not you work in the field of health care.Read the articles and watch the videos on process mapping and critical path. These activities could include business planning, staff training initiatives, changes in case management, etc.The Assignment:Using what you have learned about process mapping in this weeks resources, create a process mapping flowchart to measure operational data of the activity using Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Visio. Identify the important measurements within your process which provide operational data. Then, based on the process map you have created, list and describe these measurements and the critical path within your process, utilizing any additional process improvement tools necessary. Your completed Assignment should include the flowchart, a description of process measurements, the critical path analysis, and a 1- to 2-page summary.https://www.moresteam.com/toolbox/process-flow-chart.cfmhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2miUEt81nIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6KVR80B7Dchttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JENOhSXzi2Uhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJwKZuQUb7g
