How did the readings help me better understand the American city, past and present?

In preparation for each class you must briefly summarize and reflect on the day’s assigned readings. In one paragraph of 250 words or less you should name and very briefly summarize the ‘take home’ idea of each text, and synthesize/compare/contrast the nights reading as a group. Your response should answer the basic question: You will obviously not have space to recount the readings in detail, so aim for an appropriate mixture of important detail (including a short quote from the reading that seemed to sum it up) and broad overview.

How did they attain structural leadership? In other words, what made them reach the top of the global economy?

For each section, be sure to note how the hegemonies are similar or different. In other words, try to explain what is unique about each by comparing them to each other.

How did they demonstrate situational leadership?
How did they demonstrate institutional leadership? What distinctive institutions did they create?
What was their hegemonic cycle like? What leading sectors of the world market did they dominate in the first half? How did they financialize in their second half?
How did their specific era of world history affect their hegemony? For example, were they the hegemon during early capitalism, or industrial capitalism, or during any specific types of globalization (e.g. managed, neoliberal)?
What best explains their hegemony: a modernization or world-systems perspective? Were some elements of their hegemony as modernization theory would predict (i.e. they followed the right recipe for development)? Were some elements of their hegemony as world-systems analysis would predict (i.e. they developed by exploiting other regions of the world)?

Summarize the benefits of the pertinent DNP Essential and sub-competencies (AACN, 2006) pertaining to organizational and systems leadership competencies in addition to competencies for interprofessional collaboration. Week 1: Attributes of Leadership and Role Delineation in Advanced Nursing Practice 21 21 unread replies. 66 66 replies. Analyze one leader in your nursing practice who has demonstrated some of the leadership attributes and role delineation evidenced in your readings. Share your reflection and support your key points. As healthcare providers we take on various leadership responsibilities in our daily clinical experiences such as mentoring new nurses, coaching our diabetic patients and advocating for our team. Many of us possess these skills without the title of leader. Often times we associate leadership with management in the thought that managers are indeed leaders. However not all leaders are managers and not managers are leaders. In other words, a leader doesnt have to be the power-house in the organization; a leader can be anyone. Leaders discover fresh ideas and encourage the organizations transition to a forward-thinking phase (Lorber, Treven, & Mumel, 2016). They keep their focus on the horizon looking to discover new techniques and strategies for the organization. On the flip side, a manager keeps what is already known. They oversee their employees in the organization and strives to prevent confusion. Management is mainly related to task while leadership is about perception and skill. Some characteristics of effective leaders include being committed to your passion or purpose, doing what is in the best interest of your patients, staff and organization, and being flexible. Effective leaders perform task using different styles of leadership Week 2: Designing Healthcare Delivery System Change in Nursing Practice 22 22 unread replies. 66 66 replies. The healthcare environment is faced with ongoing demands for change due to an increased demand for high-quality and patient-centered care, advancing technology and regulatory environment (Hansell, 2018). As we strive to provide the most current evidence based practices we must recognize that it involves a continual need to make changes to practice. Although change is a vital success factor in this field it can be difficult to implement. Therefore it is important for managers and leaders to find an appropriate change theory to provide a framework for implementing, managing and evaluating change. Lewins change theory can be used for planned change and consist of three stages: unfreezing, change, and refreezing (Zaccagnini & White, 2017). Lewins model first step is unfreezing. It involves convincing those that are affected by the change that the change is necessary. Once the stakeholders have accepted the need for change, the next step of the model is to implement it. The final step is to take actions to reinforce and support the change so it can become a permanent way of doing things. These three steps are simple and can be applied to implement change in any fashion. The use of Lewins change theory in your practice setting introducing the centralized scheduling workflow process appeared to have been successful with the added benefits of improved patient and practitioner satisfaction. This type of change initiative is a great example of healthcare systems thinking and its profound impact on the quality of healthcare delivery and outcomes. Zaccagnini & White (2017) noted that systems thinking has enabled many in health care to traverse beyond the old (and extremely ineffective) name, blame, and shame approach to patient safety and toward a more effective focus on human factor engineering and the systems within which doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals function. Week 3: Intra-/Interprofessional Collaboration and Advanced Nursing Practice 33 33 unread replies. 57 57 replies. Evaluate intra-/interprofessional collaboration related to your nursing practice experience. Provide an example that illustrates how you use intra-/interprofessional collaboration within your nursing practice. What drives the process? What outcomes are anticipated Collaboration in health care is a process in which health care professionals accept supportive roles and cooperatively working together, sharing the obligation of making decisions to develop and carry out plans for patient care (Chiocchio, Lebel, & Dub, 2016). The purpose of collaboration is to provide explanation about the relationships among a variety of healthcare providers who work together to deliver healthcare services and is often characterized by distinctive features demonstrated mainly in the relationship between the doctor and nurse (Zaccagnini, & White, 2017). Interprofessional collaboration is based on the theory that when providers communicate and reflect on each other’s perspective, they can better address the many factors that shape the health of individuals, families, and communities (Chiocchio, Lebel, & Dub, 2016). One provider alone is unable to do all of this. Interprofessional collaboration among health care providers can be viewed as a vital part of improving the accessibility, quality, and value of health care as the field relies on different disciplines working together to address patient needs. We have had a great discussion this week about collaboration. It is important to understand that just communicating with others is not collaboration. However, we do know in healthcare that collaborative communication is very important. This blog discusses the important outcomes that come from good collaborative communication. When there is strong collaborative communication we see improved patient outcomes, improved patient satisfaction, and decrease in overall healthcare costs (Zysk, 2018). Zysk, T. (2018, May 26). 3 ways collaborative communication technology improves healthcare delivery. [blog]. Retrieved from three-ways-collaborative-communication-improves-healthcare/ Week 4: Transformational Leadership in Advanced Nursing Practice What exactly is transformational leadership. We throw the term around and talk about how great transformational leaders are, but we less frequently talk about what it looks like. From your reading, practice discoveries, and experience, what are the behaviors that create a transformational leader and how might you use them in your DNP leadership future?Transformational leadership style has been shown to have a positive impact on the work environment. The attributes of transformational leadership style that includes collaboration, communication, empowerment, motivation, and respect are ways leaders change behaviors in followers to achieve maximum potential. Some examples of transformational leaders attribute observed in personal nursing practice is the chief nursing officer’s ability to motivate others through her professional, personal and academic achievements. This individual has the capability to mentor and empower others. Week 6: Professional Practice Model Impact on Quality Improvement in Advanced Nursing Practice Week 7: An Ethic of Care and Nursing Leadership So, for this first discussion, critically appraise effective strategies for nursing leadership from an ethic-of-care perspective. Choose a specific strategy and relate it to your current advanced nursing practice experience Week 8: Forces of Magnetism and Advanced Nursing Practice Create the setting in this discussion that your facility is on the Magnet journey (whether it is or not). Now, create a story about you and your work day as a DNP-prepared leader enabling the forces of magnetism in your work setting. Introduction: Through the earlier assignments in this class like the PRN, Annotated Bibliography, and Proposal, youve been exploring a topic and working towards developing an argument that interests you. Now is the time to write it up as an argumentative essay by building on what youve learned from the previous assignments. An ARE should include a specific, explicit argument that you support and develop with sources to persuade a reader. Remember, at the heart of an academic argument paper like your ARE is rhetoric: communication designed to persuade an audience. Making an argumentexpressing a point of view on a subject and supporting it with evidenceis the aim of academic writing, even if the word argument is never used. In fact, in academic writing contexts you will almost always do more than report on information that you have gathered through research. You will also need to construct a point of view and provide evidence to develop your own considered argument. As part of constructing your ARE for WRIT 111, you should examine scholarly sources that explore a range of perspectives on contemporary issues being debated in various academic disciplines. You will put scholarly sources into conversation with one another by drawing connections or pointing out disparities among and between them, which is what synthesis is all about. As a new member of the academic community, you should find where your voice, perspective, and argument fit into the existing conversation, and offer your own creative insights that extend that conversation in some new direction. Requirements: The Argumentative Researched Essay will build on the work youve done to this point. You must integrate a variety of sources in your paper, at least four of which must be scholarly (published in a scholarly peer-reviewed journal or collected in an anthology of scholarly sources published by a university press). Use the sources to establish a thread of conversation. Join in that conversation. Most students will have a total of 6-10 sources for this paper. You may have more, but expect your readers to scrutinize your choices. In the process of integrating the ideas of others into your writing, you must demonstrate that you are able to do the following: 1. Known when to use correctly cited summary, paraphrase, and direct quotation 2. Show that you understand the correct way to paraphrase or quote directly 3. Follow the citation and formatting requirements of MLA or another documentation style 4. Avoid improper citation and plagiarism Your essay should have a clearly recognizable thesis in the form of an argument that a reasonable reader could disagree with. The So what? of your argument should also be identifiable. The best AREs establish new and interesting ideas and propositions, while also being purposefully and persuasively organized. Form: Your Argumentative Researched Essay will be 8 full to 10 pages. The default style is MLA (See the sample MLA essay in Easy Writer, 45f pages 259-68), but you may arrange with your instructor to use another recognized citation and formatting style. The tone and diction of this paper should relate to the secondary audience for the piece, the research-conscious, academic community of Binghamton University. AREs are scholarly papers, thus the conventions of this genre are more formal. Challenges: The challenge is putting the most relevant sources together in discussion and adding your own voice and ideas to this conversation. This requires thoughtful choices about what to include, synthesis in putting sources in conversation with one another, and confidence to add your own voice. A reader should see you engaged with your sources.

3.What evidence do you find of disparity between overweight employees’ compensation and treatment as compared to their thinner counterparts? To what extent is there bias along gender lines?

Weight Discrimination: A New Type of Corporate Downsizing?
During the late 1980’s and early 1990’s most of us were aware that many firms were
“getting leaner and meaner”
national, and global rivals. Today, however, the terms “leaner and meaner” and even
“downsizing” are taking on entirely new meanings, as more and more overweight executivelevel
applicants are experiencing rejection because they don’t fit the “trim and slim” mold that
some firms prefer. In fact, even the most casual of observers will notice that top managers who
are overweight, out of shape, or sluggish, by today’s corporate standards, tend to be the
exception, not the rule.
For those overweight applicants hoping to someday secure a management position, some
experts contend that their chances of being rejected simply because they don’t “look the part”
are pretty strong. Findings from a study conducted by the National Association to Advance Fat
Acceptance (NAAFA) (http://www.naafaonline.com/dev2/about/index.html ) indicate that only
9% of top male executives are overweight. In addition, overweight people typically are hired for
less prestigious positions and generally receive less pay. Although some executive recruiters
don’t believe that a person’s weight plays a part in career advancement, many other experts
believe otherwise.
Using the resources found at NAAFA, the NY Times Pay Discrimination article and through your
own research, answer the following questions:
1.What evidence do you find of federal or state of Georgia legislation regarding weight
discrimination? Under what conditions are overweight employees protected against
size-related discrimination?
2.According to your research, why do companies have a hard time hiring overweight
candidates?

4.What strategies do you find in your research, as well as what you would suggest, to help
overweight employees secure employment with other firms?
5.Identify one popular figure (politician, celebrity, media personality, etc.) that has been
targeted for being over-sized. Discuss the key points of their story and how they have
responded in no more than 700 words.
Format
Your paper should use prose (rather than numbering or a bullet format), APA style, be between
2000-3000 words (exclusive of your title and reference pages) and include citations of your
research within the body of your paper. Organize your paper using these subheadings:
Legislation, Employment Conditions and Popular Figures.

Is conflict something to avoid or embrace?

Write 400600 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas:
After doing some research on the topic of conflict, propose to your peers a position, and discuss the concept of conflict in teams.
Use examples from either your personal experience or from the literature that would support your position.

Discuss some of the challenges you may face in this new environment.
