How does the parathyroid hormone assay relate to the differential diagnosis of the patient’s problem?

Osteoporosis

A thin, 60-year-old woman experienced sudden pain in her right hip while walking and fell to the ground. On admission to the emergency room, her only abnormality on physical examination was pain with motion of the right hip and an internally rotated and shortened right leg. Studies Results Routine laboratory values Within normal limits (WNL) X-ray of the right hip, p. 1006 Fracture of the neck of the hip. Significant bone thinning noted.

Diagnostic Analysis

The patient had a hip fracture, based on her clinical findings and X-rays. Her hip did not fracture because of the fall, but rather she fell because of her hip fracture. Her bones were very weak. In light of her thin body habitus and postmenopausal state, she probably had osteoporosis. The patient underwent an open reduction and fixation of the hip. She recovered well and later underwent an evaluation for her bone thinning.

Studies Results Bone densitometry, p. 1002 Bone density is <2.5 SDs below normal (normal: <1.0 SD below normal) Parathyroid hormone assay, p. 380 22 pg/mL (normal: 10-65 pg/mL) Bone turnover markers, p. 915 Elevated Diagnostic Analysis The patient had osteoporosis. She had no evidence of hyperparathyroidism, renal failure, or other problems. She was started on alendronate (Fosamax). She had no further bone fractures. Her bone turnover markers returned to normal, indicating reduced bone resorption. Critical Thinking Questions 2. Why was renal failure a consideration in this case situation?

In this project, you will write a short essay that reflects your belief or passion about a particular part of your professional experience. This project will help you refresh your writing skills to prepare for the rest of your graduate program. Organizing complex and divergent thoughts to write a single page requires prewriting, perhaps an outline, and thinking about the mechanics of writing an essay paragraph by paragraph. That means starting with a topic sentence, adding supporting sentences, and concluding with a sentence that provides a bridge to the next paragraph. Your essay is intentionally limited to 500 words to engage you in the structural process of writing. There are four steps that will lead you through this project. Most steps of this project should take no more than two hours to complete. Begin by watching the video above, which introduces the project as it might occur in the workplace, and then continue with Step 1: Review the This I Believe Radio Program. When you submit your project, your work will be evaluated using the competencies listed below. You can use the list below to self-check your work before submission. 1.1: Organize document or presentation clearly in a manner that promotes understanding and meets the requirements of the assignment. 1.3: Provide sufficient, correctly cited support that substantiates the writers ideas. 1.4: Tailor communications to the audience. 1.5: Use sentence structure appropriate to the task, message and audience. 1.6: Follow conventions of Standard Written English.

Essay Questions – Dictators, Democrats and Dreamers: Indonesia 1942 to now Answer one of the following questions. No particular number of sources is required but obviously if you use only 3 or 4 you are unlikely to earn high marks. But claiming to use a large number of sources by simply listing them in your bibliography will not impress at all. How well you use your sources rather than the number is the key to a good essay. It is not compulsory, but using some primary source materials (where appropriate) is likely to impress. Not all questions lend themselves to this though. You are welcome to agree or disagree (or a bit of both) with any propositions contained in your chosen question. Chicago is the required citation/referencing system. Dont leave your preparation too late. Feel free to discuss questions with me before or during the writing of essay. (But I will not read a draft.) 1) The transfer of sovereignty from the Netherlands to Indonesia in December 1949 was primarily due to which of these factors: the Japanese Occupation, the efforts of Indonesian politicians and diplomats, the efforts of the Indonesian army? Explain your answer. (Feel free to consider other factors in your answer.) 3) Parliamentary Democracy in the 1950s died a natural death because Sukarnos claim that democracy is an alien ideology unsuited to Indonesia is true, and for the same reason democracy is doomed to fail in contemporary Indonesia. Do you agree? Explain your answer. 4) Guided Democracy was not a dictatorship supported by certain groups as Hatta called it, but a genuine attempt to construct a united nation and to solve national problems in difficult circumstances. Do you agree? Explain your answer. 5) A long trail of events and circumstances were responsible for the killings in Indonesia in 1965-66, not Suharto and the army. Do you agree? Explain your answer. 6) In reference to the events associated with the action by the 30 September Movement and its defeat, Sukarnos acronym Gestok, is more historically accurate than Suhartos acronym Gestapu. Do you agree? Explain your answer. 7) The state-constructed history of the coup and killings of the md 1960s is more about forgetting than it is about remembering. For the same reason most Indonesians still cling to it. Do you agree? Explain your answer. 8) The political success of the New Order was primarily due to the political skills of Suharto. Similarly, its demise is due to his political miscalculations. Do you agree? Explain your answer.
