Define the construct that you wish to measure and explain why you have chosen to measure it (i.e., clearly explain why you feel it is important to measure this construct in light of the literature).

The purpose of the test construction project is to familiarize you with the principles and procedures that apply to item and test development, validation, and utility. Your task is to develop a test and report the methods and procedures that you would use to demonstrate the properties of reliability, validity, and purpose. The final format will be an 10-12 page paper (double-spaced, typed, 12-pt Times or Times New Roman font). You do not have to write an entire test. Rather, the purpose of the assignment is to choose a construct that you believe is valuable to measure, explain how you would create your instrument and demonstrate all relevant types of reliability and validity, and provide a discussion as to the purpose, utility, and potential implications of your instrument. Please use the following outline to help you with structuring the paper: General Guidelines for the Test Construction Project Provide a rationale for the development of your test based on the literature in that area. Are there tests already available to measure this construct; if so what are they? What would your test add to what is already available? If no tests are currently available to measure your construct, what is the rationale for the need for your test/ measure of this construct? Provide sufficient literature to support your rationale. 2. Item Development: Explain the types of items you would choose and why (e.g., T/F, Multiple Choice, Likert-type scale, etc). How many items will be on your test? Why are the items you have chosen on your test? Provide 10 sample items. 3. Reliability: Explain how you would demonstrate/ ensure that your test is reliable (e.g., Test-retest, Internal Consistency, etc.). Be sure to address all types of reliability that are important to demonstrate in our test. What kinds of analyses will you run to demonstrate your instruments reliability? You do not need to actually conduct reliability tests. 4. Validity: Explain how you would go about validating your test. What kind of validity are you seeking for your test (again, this should be based on your consideration of all types of validity that are important for you to demonstrate in your test)? What other tests would you use to help demonstrate validity in your instrument? What kind of correlations would you expect to find between your test and these other instruments? 5. Norms: What population(s) will you use to develop your test? Be sure to explain why this population (or group of populations) is needed in the development of your test? Will you employ a norm-referenced or criterion-referenced scoring system on your test, and why? 6. Utility: What is the purpose of your test? How should your test be used/ how is it most useful? Provide a thorough discussion of the social, ethical, and clinical concerns related to using your test. 7. Debriefing. What did you learn from this project? What would you do differently in hindsight?
