carry out your own empirical research project on the topic of your choice using quantitative data analyzed in Stata.

Assignment Goal: This assignment asks you to develop a testable research question and hypothesis and apply the appropriate statistical techniques to test your hypothesis. You will use the scientific research process to answer a question that is interesting to you and determine whether two concepts are statistically related to one another. You will incorporate class concepts throughout the paper and interpret the statistics and models that you produce. Assignment Specifics: The set-up of the paper should be as follows: Introduction (1 page, broken into two paragraphs): The introduction should begin with a statement of your topic, why it is important, what your research questions are (conceptual and concrete), and your theory about how your variables are related. In other words, whats your causal explanation? What is your reasoning behind thinking that the independent variable is going to cause the dependent variable? In the second paragraph, you should describe your data source, variables (identify the independent and dependent variables and their levels of measurement), and state a testable hypothesis (based on how the variables are measured in the dataset). In other words, in this section, I want you to go from conceptual theory with your causal explanation to operationalization to stating your testable causal hypothesis. Proposed mediator (one or two paragraphs): Propose a plausible mediator of the relationship. This doesnt have to be a variable thats in the dataset (you wont be doing a statistical analysis to test whether the variable is, in fact, a mediator). Describe your reasoning behind proposing that the variable might mediate your hypothesized relationship between your independent variable and dependent variable. Note that your causal explanation (in the introduction section) may very well take you in the direction of a possible mediator. Proposed moderator (one or two paragraphs): Next, propose a plausible moderator of the relationship. This doesnt have to be a variable thats in the dataset (you wont be doing a statistical analysis to test whether the variable is, in fact, a moderator). Describe your reasoning behind proposing that the variable might moderate your hypothesized relationship between your independent variable and dependent variable. of data (1 page, plus a graph): In this section, provide descriptive statistics about your dependent and independent variables. Provide information on measures of central tendency and the dispersion (i.e., spread or variation of the values around the central tendency) of your independent and dependent variables. Also, provide a visual representation of your dependent variable and assess whether the distribution is symmetric or skewed. Bivariate hypothesis test (2 pages, plus tables and graphs): You should next move into a discussion of how your main independent variable of interest relates to your dependent variable. You should provide two bivariate hypothesis tests. First, turn both your independent variable and your dependent variable into 2-level categorical variables, and compute a X 2 test (chi-square test, also known as a tabular analysis). Second, using the original coding of the independent variable and dependent variable, conduct either at t-test (also known as a difference of means test) or a correlation, depending on how the measurement metric of your independent variable (hint: if its categorical, do a t-test; if its continuous do a correlation). Next, present a graphical representation of the relationship (from the t-test or correlation analysis; a bar graph, line graph, or scatterplot). You should describe the relationship between the variables, including direction, strength, linearity, etc. (if applicable with your levels of measurement) in the text of your paper. Bivariate regression analyses (1-2 pages, plus a table): Next, test your hypothesis using a bivariate regression. Present a table with the results of your regression analysis. Interpret the results, and assess whether your hypothesis is confirmed or not. Address the relationships between the independent variable and the dependent variable. In this section, also report and interpret the value of your R2. Are there omitted variables that you think may potentially serve as confounding variables in your established relationship? Briefly describe what you think might be a confound and how this may affect your findings. The four hurdles to establishing a causal relationship (1.5 pages): Now that youve conducted your analyses, evaluate your theory and evidence with regard to the four hurdles discussed in Kellstedt and Whitten (pg. 54-62). Describe what each hurdle is, and discuss whether you think your theory and findings pass each hurdle along the way In other words, given your theory, hypothesis, and results, how confident are you that theres a causal relationship between your independent variable and dependent variable? Conclusion (1 page): Your conclusion should consist of two parts. First, provide a one paragraph summary of your results. Include a discussion of whether or not a relationship exists between your independent and your dependent variables at the bivariate level (referring to both your bivariate tests and bivariate regression) and whether you suspect that the presence or absence of a relationship would remain after you controlled for possible confounds. Your second paragraph should assess how well your independent variables explain the variance in your dependent variable. Is the relationship between the independent and dependent variables strong or weak? If the relationship is weak, provide some reasoning for why it may be weak and some other factors that future researchers should consider. Ultimately, the first paragraph should assess whether your hypothesis is supported while the second paragraph should assess the strength of your evidence. Formatting: The paper should be in 12 point Times New Roman Font with 1 inch margins. The paper should be approximately 8-10 double-spaced pages, plus the graphs and tables, and the pages MUST be stapled. The paper cannot be longer than 13 pages of text (not including graphs and tables). A hard copy of the assignment needs to be handed in with the .do and .log files stapled to the back. The .do and .log files do not count in your page count. Electronic copies will not be accepted.

Leadership Development: Strategic Planning for Collaborative Service Delivery
This assignment involves the development of a brief strategic plan for building a collaborative service delivery model for the organization you have selected for your project assignments. Your organizations senior leadership has designated you to be the task organizer to address the service delivery model, with a directive to build a team that will be able to address the issues and concerns. You will have to decide what kinds of organizations would need to become involved in the coalition. You might need to bring in legislators or policymakers, health care facilities, schools, private organizations, or philanthropic organizations that have an interest or funding investment in the identified population. In your strategic plan, include:A description of the human services delivery focus for the strategic plan.
A description of a method for conducting a market assessment of community needs. How will you develop a plan or use an existing tool to assess the community needs?
A plan for building capacity for service delivery that involves engaging multiple organizations in the planning process. You will need to identify the organizations that will be included in the planning process, how the forms of governance for the organizations may impact their ability to engage in the planning process, and how they will be invited to participate.
A timeline for implementing the plan. Draw a graphic timeline and include key points and dates for development and implementation.
Tools and practices you will use to evaluate the plan for success.

An assessment of the sustainability of the plan, based on governance structures and policy changes that may impact continued implementation.

Who Has the Most Scripturally Correct Theory of Government?

The purpose of this paper is to provide a practical application of the material presented in this course by developing upon the concepts presented in the lectures. Your paper must demonstrate a mastery of the concepts presented in the lectures as well as include a presentation of fact-based material. Do not attempt to write this paper without carefully studying the related lectures. You will prepare your Research Paper on the topic Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau: Choose 1 of the 3 philosophers, and then compare and contrast all 3 philosophers on such topics as: human nature, natural law, human law, origin of government, purpose of government, civil disobedience, right of revolution, and government and religion. In your Research Paper, explain both why you selected your author and why you did not choose the other authors. If you believe 1 author was more scriptural in certain aspects but another author was closer to Scripture in a different area, explain your position. The important point is not which philosopher you choose but how well you explain and defend your choice. Be specific by citing the individual points with which you agree and explaining why they are scriptural. You must use the textbooks and Scripture as references for this assignment. You may cite additional sources if you wish, but the majority of the references must be from the textbooks and Scripture.Specific requirements for the Research Paper are:
The body of the paper must be at least 10 pages (including the title page and bibliography).
The paper must be written in current Turabian format.
The paper must include a title page. This page must have a title, your name, course number, and the instructors name.
The second page of the paper must be an outline of the contents of the paper.
When giving in-text citations, include not only the author but also the page number. Page numbers must be included.
Proper headings must be used.
The paper must have correct grammar and spelling.

read the original texts and the required secondary sources closely before developing your own thesis.

You should also refer to the Cambridge Illustrated History of China and Sources of Chinese Tradition for contextualization of ideas. At the beginning of your essay, you should articulate your own thesis in one paragraph: what you intend to say and achieve in the essay.
Topic #1: The Indigenization of Buddhism in China For this subject, you should write an intellectual history of how Buddhism came to China and underwent changes and variations to become fully Chinese.*PLEASE USE ALL OF THESE SOURCES:Required Readings: -Chapters 15-17 (pp.415-536) in Sources of Chinese Tradition -Arthur F. Wright, Buddhism in Chinese History (Posted on the Avenue) -On Time, from Seng-Zhaos Chao lun (posted Avenue) -The Dhammapada, Sources of early Buddhism (posted on the Avenue)

Both Oedipus the King by Sophocles and Hamlet by Shakespeare are tragedies. Find a point of interest and develop a contrast that can be used as a thesis.

Either compare point by point, and then draw a distinction, or write about Oedipus in one section, and Hamlet in the other, before establishing contrasting points coming to a conclusion that proves the thesis.Use Aristotle and Nietzsche’s explanations on tragedy, and a third critic of your choice. We have been discussing, fate vs free-will a lot throughout the semester. If that helps with coming up with a thesis.

Demonstrate an awareness of genre conventions how this particular form (the documentary photo essay) functions to advocate for a view or position and of rhetorical strategies, both written and visual, employed by the author/photographer.

We examine examples of documentary photo essays, considering the defining characteristics of the genre and the presence, or absence, of those characteristics in each example. You will then select a photo essay (from the list at the end of these instructions) and write a rhetorical analysis that serves to analyze and evaluate the photo essays effectiveness, taking into account its rhetorical situation (audience, situation, and purpose) and its use of genre conventions and other strategies (framing, cropping, and vector of attention).

You must include and refer to at least four separate images from within the photo essay to help you develop your analysis and support your evaluation. Ideally, you will collaborate with a partner within our class and decide collectively on which photos to analyze based on shared interests and expertise.

You rhetorical analysis/evaluation will:

Consider the authors rhetorical situation (audience, situation, and purpose), including the social importance of the photo essay:
What impact it had on the readers and viewers in its original context.
Its current relevance: what we learn or experience from viewing and reading it today.

Evaluate the overall effectiveness of the argument (the photo essay as a whole) given the rhetorical situation and strategies youve considered above.
